Art of Motherhood

"Motherhood has a very humanizing effect. Everything gets reduced to essentials." -- Meryl Streep

Earthquake-ravaged country, Haiti, was topping the headlines again. HEADLINE: US Missionaries detained and accused of Child Trafficking. With the gravity of the situation in the area, desperate parents may have thought, with no choice, to give their children away willingly in exchange of a better Life.

You can’t simply ignore the fact that Haitians are struggling at the moment. Mother’s instinct is to protect and provide everything for her child to live, whatever circumstances it maybe. I know this is not a good excuse but definitely I would understand and know where it is coming from.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t reflect much from the rest of the world. Criticisms were thrown. Accusations were hurdled. In the light of a massive destruction, we should be taking care of each other and find ways on how to help those people in need. I'm appalled.

For the Mothers of Haiti I would like to share a poem written in Filipino that I wrote and dedicated to my Dear Mother whom I fully treasured, love and the ring that binds me to LIFE....

Pagmulat sa mundo'y
ika'y aking nasilayan,
Unang yakap
aking naramdaman.
Haplos ng iyong mga daliri'y
nagbigay sigla sa isang munting buhay,
Tamis ng iyong ngiti'y
nagbigay ng liwalas sa aking mundong dalisay.
Unang sambit, lahaw ng iyak
iyo'y unang natuklasan,
Unang hakbang, unang yapos
iyo'y nasaksihan.
Umaga'y kay ganda
pag kita'y aking nasisilayan,
Habang yakap-yakap si Itay
na kaakit-akit pagmasdan.
O kay sarap, o kay ganda
ang lingap ng kadakilaan
Salamat sa'yo INAY
na Ilaw ng aming Tahanan.
